THESE ARE TONERS THAT HAVE THE IMAGING DRUMS BUILT INTO THE CARTRIDGES THEMSELVES AND IS REPLACED AS ONE WHOLE UNIT. THERE IS NO SEPARATE DRUM.
There are 4 colors in this series; Black, Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow.
These are remanufactured cartridges.
Not Recognizing
Verify the customer has the correct cartridge for their specific printer.
There’s a smart chip located on the back of the cartridge. Check to make sure the two gold contacts are clean and undamaged. You can use a clean, dry, soft, lint-free cloth to wipe the contacts.
Make the cartridges are installed correctly and are installed into the correct color slot.
To remove and install these into an HP Color Laserjet 4700 do the following;
– Lift the top cover of the printer.
– Pull down the front cover and transfer unit.
– Remove the color cartridge that needs replacing. Make note of the different locations on the colors.
– Make sure you have the correct color cartridge for the one you are replacing. Align the print cartridge with the tracks inside the printer and insert the cartridge until it is completely seated.
– Close the front cover and then close the top cover.
Print Quality Issues
Try to determine if the print quality issue is occurring with one color in particular or if the issue is occuring across all the colors. Look at the printed pages and see if the issue is only noticeable in areas where one particular color is. Such as only where there is blue there is a streak. Or the lines on the page are always magenta.
The OPC drum is located on the front of the cartridge and is protected by a spring loaded plastic cover. Pull up the spring loaded cover to view the OPC drum. Do NOT touch the drum. Check the OPC drum for any damage or debris. You can use a clean, dry, soft, lint-free cloth to gently clean the drum. Do NOT use moisture of any kind.
Holding the cartridge by its ends, gently roll the cartridge left to right a few times to redistribute the toner powder inside the cartridge.
For issues such as toner specks on the pages or toner smear there may be excess toner build up in the paper path and HP has a cleaning page that can be printed to help clear up the paper path. This will NOT resolve ghosting, streaking, or line issues. To run the cleaning page do the following;
– Press MENU to enter the MENUS
– Press ▼ to highlight CONFIGURE DEVICE
– Press the check mark button to select CONFIGURE DEVICE
– Press ▼ to highlight PRINT QUALITY
– Press the check mark button to select PRINT QUALITY
– Press ▼ to highlight PROCESS CLEANING PAGE
– Press the check mark button to select PROCESS CLEANING PAGE
Leaking
This toner does not have any pull seal tabs and as a result a little toner dust on the cartridge is normal. Vibrations during shipping may cause the roller to rotate a little and allow a little toner powder to leak. This is normal. You can clean excess toner dust off the cartridge by gently wiping the cartridge with a clean, dry, lint-free cloth or gently blowing on it. Be careful with compressed air as this may blow too powerfully and blow toner powder out of the cartridge. Do NOT use moisture of any kind.
Not Fitting
Verify they have the correct cartridge for their specific printer model. Verify the correct color is being installed into the correct color slot. Make sure the cartridge is being installed in the correct orientation. Check inside the printer for any obstructions which may be causing the cartridge not to install correctly. Check the cartridge itself for physical damage.

Some of the new universal cartridges are coming with instructions to pull the tabs but there is no tabs to pull. It is confusing customers. They may need to push the plastic points in the front of the cartridge up a bit to get it to open up so its easier to install in the printer.
