THIS TONER CARTRIDGE DOES NOT HAVE INTEGRATED DRUM UNIT.  THE DRUM IS A SEPARATE UNIT FROM THE TONER CARTRIDGE.

Not Recognizing

Verify they have the correct cartridge for their specific printer model.

The printer monitors when the toner cartridge is empty by using an electrical current in the drum reservoir.  When the current goes above a certain voltage the light to replace the toner is triggered.  Shaking the toner cartridge is recommended as the toner can become compacted and not feed into the drum reservoir properly causing a false voltage reading.

To remove and install the toner cartridge into a Ricoh FT-4480 do the following;

–          Open the side cover to the printer.

–          Turn the toner cartridge to the unlock position and then pull it from the printer.  Make sure to support the cartridge while removing to prevent toner spill.

–          Insert the new toner cartridge into the printer.  Make sure it is full inserted and then turn the toner to the locked position.

–          Close the side cover to the printer.

Print Quality Issues

Try rocking the cartridge back and forth a few times to redistribute the toner powder inside the cartridge.

There’s a pull tape seal on the cartridge which must be removed.  Make sure this pull tape seal is not on the cartridge.

Ghosting, lines, streaking, and repeating defects will be a drum related issue.  The drum unit is separate from the toner cartridge and is a replaceable, maintenance item.  After a certain period of usage the drum will need replacing.

Not Fitting

Verify they have the correct toner cartridge for their specific printer model.  Check inside the printer for any obstructions.  Check the cartridge itself for physical damage.
