DO NOT RESHIP

THIS TONER CARTRIDGE DOES NOT HAVE INTEGRATED DRUM UNIT.  THE DRUM IS A SEPARATE UNIT FROM THE TONER CARTRIDGE.

Not Recognizing

Verify they have the correct cartridge for their specific printer model.

Make sure that the toner cartridge is fully locked into place in the printer and fully seated.

To remove and install this toner cartridge into Brother HL-600 do the following;

–          Lift the multi-purpose sheet feeder to remove it.

–          Gently push the shutter lever all the way to the rear of the printer.  The toner cartridge cannot be removed unless the shutter is completely closed by turning the lever fully to the rear.

–          Remove the old toner cartridge from the printer.  Make sure you do NOT remove the drum unit along with the toner cartridge.

–          Install the new toner cartridge into the drum unit inside the printer.  Make sure that the ▲ marks are aligned.  If the cartridge appears too small then the drum unit was removed with the old toner cartridge.  Separate the drum unit from the old toner cartridge and use the drum with the new toner cartridge.

–          Gently push the shutter lever to the front of the printer until the two arrow marks are aligned with each other.

–          Install the multi-purpose sheet feeder.

Print Quality Issues

Gently rock the toner cartridge side to side a few times to redistribute the toner powder.

Remove the protective piece of paper from the cartridge prior to installation.

When the toner cartridge or drum unit are replaced, or if the operating temperature and humidity are high or low, print conditions may change causing darker or lighter printouts.  The print density is adjustable via a density dial located near the power cord on the back of the printer.  Use a screwdriver to turn the print density dial clockwise for darker printouts and counterclockwise for lighter printouts.  The dial is set in the middle position for the default setting.

For streaking or lines the scanner window or toner sensor may be dirty.  To clean these do the following;

–          Unplug the power cord

–          Remove the multi-purpose sheet feeder

–          Open the top cover of the printer.

–          Open the drum cover.

–          Take the drum unit out of the printer and set it aside.

–          Wipe the electric plates (3) (4) (5) with a clean, dry, lint-free cloth.  Wipe the scanner window (6) and the toner sensor (7) as well.

With the drum unit removed from the printer, clean the corona wire wire inside the drum unit by gently sliding the tab right and left several times.  Make sure to return the tab back to its home position.

–          Install the drum unit into the printer.

–          Close the drum cover and top cover.

–          Install the multi-purpose sheet feeder.

–          Plug in the power cord.

The drum unit is a separate, replaceable, maintenance item and will need to be replaced after a period of usage; generally every 4-6 toner cartridge changes.  Ghosting, streaking, and lines are drum related issues.

Not Fitting

Verify they have the correct toner cartridge for their specific printer model.  If they are saying the toner cartridge is too small they have removed the drum unit from their printer and are trying to install the toner cartridge into the drum unit compartment.  In this printer series the drum and toner cartridge are designed to be removed separate from each other and cannot be removed together.  Check inside the printer for any obstructions.  Check the cartridge itself for physical damage.
