THESE TONER CARTRIDGES DO NOT HAVE THE OPC DRUM INTEGRATED INTO THE CARTRIDGE ITSELF.  THERE IS A SEPARATE, REPLACEABLE, DRUM UNIT FOR EACH COLOR.  BE SURE TO SEPARATE THE OLD DRUM UNIT FROM THE OLD TONER CARTRIDGE TO RE-USE IT WITH THE NEW TONER CARTRIDGE.

There are 4 colors in this series; Black, Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow.

These are compatible cartridges so there will be some differences from the OEM.  These differences will not affect the function.

Not Recognizing

Verify they have the correct cartridge for their specific printer model.

This cartridge uses a RF or radio frequency sensor chip. This chip does not make physical contact with the printer but rather sits in a specific position to be picked up by the printer’s sensor. Make sure that the cartridge is properly inserted and locks into place to ensure the chip is in the correct position. If the problem persists it is most likely an issue with the chip on the cartridge.

To remove and install the cartridges into an Okidata C9650DN printer do the following;

–          Open the top cover.  To open the top cover, squeeze the top cover handle to release the catch and raise the cover.

–          Locate the color cartridge you are going to replace.  Move the lock lever to the left to unlock the toner cartridge from its drum unit.  Remove the toner cartridge from the printer.  IMPORTANT:  Make sure not to remove the drum unit along with the toner cartridge.  If the toner looks like the image below this means the drum unit is still attached (24).

–          Make sure you have the correct color cartridge for the cartridge you are replacing and be sure you are installing into the correct color slot.  Insert the toner cartridge into the printer and push down firmly.  Move the lock lever to the right as far as it will go to lock the toner into place.  If the customer is saying the new toner cartridge is too small then see the previous step.

To avoid print quality issues, the LED heads located under the top cover MUST be cleaned when a new toner cartridge is installed.  To clean the LED heads do the following;

–          Using a soft, dry, lint-free, cloth gently wipe each of the four heads (1).  Move the cloth as shown, using a clean section of the cloth with each pass.  Be careful not to damage the guards (2).

–          Close the top cover.

Print Quality Issues

As mentioned above, make sure they have cleaned off the LED heads in their printer if they are getting faded images, white stripes, or blurred letters.

There is a tape seal that also must be removed the toner cartridge prior to installation.  Ensure that this tape was fully removed from the cartridge.

For light prints you can also try shaking the cartridge by holding it by its ends and gently rocking it side to side a few times to evenly distribute the toner powder inside the cartridge.

Almost all ghost imaging, streaking, lines, or repetitive image defects will be an issue with the drum unit.  There are individual drum units for each color that will need to be replaced over time, usually after 4-6 toner cartridge changes.

Not Fitting

Verify they have the correct cartridges for their specific printer.  If they are saying the cartridge is too small then they removed the drum unit with their old toner cartridge, have them check their old toner cartridge and make sure the drum unit is not still attached.
