Not Recognizing

Verify they have the correct cartridge for their specific model printer.

This cartridge uses a RF or radio frequency sensor chip that’s located on the side of the cartridge. This chip does not make physical contact with the printer but rather sits in a specific position to be picked up by the printer’s sensor. Make sure that the cartridge is properly inserted and locks into place to ensure the chip is in the correct position. If the problem persists it is most likely an issue with the chip on the cartridge.

Make sure the correct color is being installed into the correct slot.

To remove and install these toner cartridges into a HP Color Laserjet 4600 do the following;

–          Lift the top cover of the printer.

–          Pull down the front cover and transfer unit.

–          Remove the color cartridge you are replacing.  Make sure to note the different locations of the colors.

–          Make sure you have the correct color cartridge for the cartridge you are replacing.  Align the print cartridge inside the printer and insert the cartridge until it is completely seated.

–          Close the front cover.

Print Quality Issues

There is an orange plastic cover on the front held by tape and a pull strip on the side that must be removed from the cartridge before installation.  It is important that the pull tape seal is fully removed from the cartridge.  If the cartridge is printing blank or printed 2-3 pages and now prints blank then the pull tape has not been removed or has broken off inside the cartridge when being removed.

To help diagnose which color toner is causing an issue, have the customer print the Print Quality Troubleshooting pages.  To do this do the following;

–          Press the check mark to enter the MENUS

–          Press ▼ to highlight DIAGNOSTICS

–          Press the check mark to select DIAGNOSTICS

–          Press ▼ to highlight PQ TROUBLESHOOTING

–          Press the check mark to print the pages.

Check the output on the pages and see if any colors are missing or if any colors in particular are streaking.  Try to determine if the issue is occurring with just one color or if it is occurring across all the colors.

If lines are occurring across the entire page through ALL the colors then there may be an issue with the fuser inside the printer.  If the problem only seems to occur with one color then remove that cartridge and attempt to troubleshoot it.

Hold the cartridge by its ends and gently roll it to redistribute the toner powder.

The OPC drum is located on the back of the toner cartridge protected by a spring loaded plastic shutter.  Lift the shutter to visually inspect the OPC drum.  Do NOT touch the OPC drum.  Check for debris or damage.  A dry, soft, clean, lint-free, cloth can be used to gently clean the OPC drum.  Do NOT use moisture of any kind.

Not Fitting

Verify they have the correct cartridges for their specific printer model.  Make sure that the correct color cartridge is being installed into the correct color slot.  Verify that all the seals have been removed from the cartridge.  Check inside the printer for any obstructions.  Check the cartridge itself for physical damage.
