THIS IS JUST A DRUM UNIT. THE TONER CARTRIDGE IS A SEPARATE, REPLACEABLE, MAINTENANCE ITEM.
Not Recognizing
Verify you have the correct drum unit for your specific printer model.
This drum unit uses a RF or radio frequency sensor chip that’s located in the small compartment on the back of the drum unit. This chip does not make physical contact with the printer but rather sits in a specific position to be picked up by the printer’s sensor. Make sure that the drum unit is properly inserted and locks into place to ensure the chip is in the correct position. If the problem persists it is most likely an issue with the chip on the drum unit.
To remove and install this drum unit into a Xerox Workcentre M118 Series printer do the following;
– Pull the front cover towards you to open it.
– Open Tray 5 (bypass tray) if necessary, and then open Cover A while lifting up the release lever.
– Lift up the colored lever, and slide the drum unit out until you can lift the handle on top of the cartridge.
– Hold the handle and remove the drum unit from the printer.
– Place the drum unit into position, then using the handle slide it into the printer until it clicks.
– Pull out the sealing tape completely without breaking it.
– Push the cartridge again so that it is correctly placed into the printer.
– Close Cover A until it latches and then close Tray 5 (bypass tray).
– Close the front cover.
Print Quality Issues
There is a pull tape seal which must be removed from the drum unit once installed into the printer.
There is also a piece of black paper that surrounds the OPC drum which must be removed prior to installation.
The OPC drum is protected by a spring loaded plastic shutter. Lift the shutter to visually inspect the OPC drum. Do NOT touch the OPC drum. A soft, clean, dry, lint-free, cloth can be used to gently wipe the OPC drum. Do NOT use moisture of any kind.
Not Fitting
Verify you have the correct drum unit for your specific printer model. Make sure you are replacing the drum unit and not the toner cartridge. Make sure the black paper has been removed. Check inside the printer for obstructions. Check the drum unit itself for physical damage.
