THIS IS A TONER THAT HAS THE OPC DRUM BUILT INTO THE CARTRIDGE ITSELF AND IS REPLACED AS ONE WHOLE UNIT. THERE IS NO SEPARATE DRUM UNIT.
Not Recognizing
Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific printer model.
This cartridge does not have a smart chip. There is a counter on the printer that must be MANUALLY reset by the user when a new toner is installed. If this counter was not reset then the count will be still going off the previous toner cartridge so it will say the toner is low.
To remove and install this toner cartridge into an IBM Network Printer 17 do the following;
– Remove all the paper from the auxiliary tray and close it.
– Press the release button and open the front cover.
– Pull the old toner cartridge up and out of the printer.
– Grip the new toner by the back and put at a downward angle.
– Slide the cartridge into the printer guide channels. To make sure the toner cartridge is secure, gently press both ends of the cartridge until the cartridge stops.
– Close the front cover.
IMPORTANT: You must reset the toner counter on the printer once the new toner is installed. Failure to reset the toner counter will cause the toner to read as empty or give the message to replace. To reset the page counter on the printer do the following;
– On the printer’s screen select the TONER CTR menu item
– While in this menu hold down the Shift and Value keys at the same time
– Press the Continue/Enter key
– Cycle the printer off and on. The toner page counter will now be reset.
Print Quality Issues
Grip the cartridge at each end and gently rock it from side to side to evenly distribute the toner.
There’s a pull tape seal on the side of the cartridge that must be removed prior to installation. It is important that this pull tape seal is fully removed. If the printer is printing blank pages or printed 2-3 pages and now prints blank then the pull tape seal hasn’t been removed or has broken off inside the cartridge while being removed.
If the toner is smearing off the paper or isn’t adhering properly, make sure the paper settings on the printer match the paper type being used. Thicker paper, such as labels or bonded paper, require a different paper setting to allow more heating while printing to ensure the toner melts properly to the paper. Trying to print on thicker paper while under that standard paper setting will cause the toner not to get enough heat to melt properly.
The OPC drum is located on the bottom of the cartridge protected by a spring loaded plastic shutter. Lift the shutter to visually inspect the OPC drum. Do NOT touch the OPC drum. A soft, clean, dry, lint-free cloth can be used to gently wipe the drum. Do NOT use moisture of any kind.
Not Fitting
Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific printer model. Make sure the pull tape seal has been removed from the side of the cartridge. Check inside the printer for any obstructions that may be preventing the cartridge from installing. Check the cartridge itself for physical damage.
