INK TANK – THESE DO NOT HAVE THE PRINT HEADS INTEGRATED.  DO NOT DO THE PAPER TOWEL METHOD WITH THESE CARTRIDGES

The T636 series cartridges are the extra high capacity version of the T596 series high capacity cartridges.  The T636 series are physically larger than the T596 series.  Both series of cartridges are compatible with the Stylus Pro 7900 and 9900 printers and the ink cartridge cover should close properly using either series.

There are 11 different colors in each series of cartridges so verifying the correct cartridge is important.

These are all pigment based ink.

Not Recognizing

Verify you have the correct cartridges for your specific model of printer.

There’s a smart chip located on the front inside of the cartridge.  Check the chip for damage or debris.  A Q-tip can be used to reach and wipe the gold contacts.

Make sure the cartridge is firmly pressed into place and installed correctly.  If the cartridge is not pushed down far enough the chip will not make proper contact.  It is also important to make sure the correct color is being installed into the correct slot.  There are 11 different color cartridges in this series.

To remove and install these cartridges into an Epson Stylus Pro 9900 printer do the following;

–          Press the button that has an image that looks like an ink drop with a small arrow next to it.  Select the ink bay you want to open and press OK

–          Open the ink cover all the way.

–          Press in the ink cartridge you want to replace.  The cartridge pops out.

–          Remove the ink cartridge from the printer.  Make note of the slot locations of the various colors and the location of the color you are removing.

–          Hold the new cartridge with the arrow pointing towards the printer.  Make sure you are installing the cartridge into its correct color slot.  Insert the cartridge into the slot until it clicks into place.  Do not force it in.

–          Close the ink cover.

Print Quality Issues

A print head cleaning should be performed for any print quality issues.  This printer automatically runs cleanings periodically however it still may be necessary to manually run a cleaning.  For this particular printer there are stages of cleaning that can be performed.  It is best to start with a normal cleaning and progress to a power cleaning if the normal cleaning doesn’t resolve the issue.  To perform the cleaning do the following;

–          Press ►Menu.

–          Press ▼ until MAINTENANCE is selected, then press ►.

–          Press ▼ until CLEANING is selected, then press ►.

–          Select NORMAL CLEANING, then press ►.

Print a test page to see if the problem has been resolved.  If not, repeat the steps above except select POWER CLEANING this time to run a more aggressive cleaning.  Cleaning does consume ink so it should be done sparingly.  After running the power cleaning allow the printer to sit for 15 minutes before attempting to print.  This allows the ink to soak on the print head and help soften any dried ink which may have accumulated.

Using a paper towel to cover the ink nozzle, vigorously shake the ink cartridge.  This helps remix the liquid ink inside the cartridge to prevent clotting on the print head.

Not Fitting

Verify you have the correct cartridges for your specific printer model.  Make sure that the correct color is being installed into the correct color slot.  There are a lot of colors in this series of cartridges so it is important to make sure the correct one is going into the correct slot.  Check inside the printer for any obstructions which may be stopping the cartridge from installing properly.  Check the cartridge itself for physical damage.
