THIS IS A TONER CARTRIDGE THAT DOES NOT HAVE THE OPC DRUM INTEGRATED.  THE OPC DRUM IS A SEPARATE, REPLACEABLE, MAINTENANCE ITEM.  IT IS IMPORTANT TO MAKE SURE TO SEPARATE THE DRUM UNIT FROM THE OLD TONER CARTRIDGE AND RE-USE IT WITH THE NEW TONER CARTRIDGE.

 

Not Recognizing

 

Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific model printer.

 

There is a smart chip located on the bottom of the cartridge.  Check to ensure it is not damaged, missing, or dirty.  A clean, dry, lint-free cloth can be used to gently wipe the two gold contacts.

 

Make sure the toner is installed correctly and fully inserted.  Verify they have separated the drum unit from their old toner cartridge and that they are re-using the drum unit.  The cartridge connects into the separate drum unit.

 

To remove and install this toner cartridge into a Dell 3333dn do the following;

–          Open the front door by pressing the button on the left side of the printer and lowering the door.

 

–          Press the button on the base of the drum unit.  Pull the toner cartridge up and out using the handle.

NOTICE:  It is important that the toner cartridge is removed from the drum unit.  If the new toner appears too small then you may have removed the toner cartridge still attached to the drum unit.  If the cartridge looks like the image below then the drum unit is still attached;

 

The drum unit on its own will look like the image below.  You want to make sure you are re-using the old drum unit with the new toner cartridge.

–          Install the new toner cartridge by aligning the rollers on the toner cartridge with the tracks of the drum unit.  Push the toner cartridge in as far as it will go.  The cartridge clicks into place when correctly installed.  If the customer is saying the toner is too small see the step above.

 

–          Close the front door.

 

Print Quality Issues

 

There is a protective paper held on by tape that must be removed prior to installation.

 

The cartridges use small rubber rollers to distribute toner onto the OPC drum roller in the drum unit that physically puts the images to paper.  Lines on the paper will mostly likely be caused by scratches on their drum unit.  To verify it is not a cartridge issue, have the customer look at the rubber roller on the cartridge.  If no lines are present on the rubber then the problem lies in their drum unit.

 

To help isolate print quality problems there is a print quality page that can be printed.  To print this page do the following;

–          Turn the printer OFF

–          Make sure there is plain white copy paper loaded

–          Hold down the 2 and 6 keys at the same time while turning the printer ON

–          Release the keys when the screen with the progress bar appears.  The Configuration menu will appear.

–          Touch the down arrow until Print Quality Pages appears

–          Touch Print Quality Pages.  The print quality pages will print

–          Touch Back

–          Touch Exit Configuration

 

Look at the printed pages and follow the instructions on the pages to help determine the print quality defect.

 

They can pull the drum unit and visually inspect it for damage or debris.  To do this you will need to make sure they have separated the toner cartridge from the drum unit.  Do NOT touch the OPC drum itself.

 

Lines, streaking, ghost imaging, and repeating image defects are drum related issues.  The drum unit is a replaceable maintenance item.  It will need to be changed after a certain period of usage, usually 4-6 toner changes.

 

Leaking

 

This toner does not have any pull seal tabs and as a result a little toner dust on the cartridge is normal.  The protective paper that covers the toner roller has a piece of foam that covers the roller to help collect any loose toner dust.  However, vibrations during shipping may cause the roller to rotate a little and allow a little toner powder to leak.  This is normal.  You can clean excess toner dust off the cartridge by gently wiping the cartridge with a clean, dry, lint-free cloth or gently blowing on it.  Be careful with compressed air as this may blow too powerfully and blow toner powder out of the cartridge.
