These are not inkjet or toner cartridges but rather wax cubes which the printer melts and uses to print using a separate print head. They are compatible so their shape may differ greatly from the OEM sticks however they will fit and will work.
There is a Start Key that comes with the new sticks that must be used each time a new stick is installed. The customer needs to keep this Start Key on their printer for future use.
Not Recognizing
Verify you have the correct ink sticks for your specific printer. The Start Keys are specific to the printer model.
For each ink stick installed the Start Key must be used to notify the printer a new stick was installed. If you are installing 4 new Cyan ink sticks then you will need to use the Start Key 4 times as you install each stick. The Start Key is not color specific.
To install the ink sticks into a Xerox Phaser 8870 printer do the following;
– Remove any paper in the output tray.
– Open the ink loader door.
– Insert the Start Key over the right tab in the printer. You are going to use the Start Key first BEFORE installing the ink stick.
– Listen for the click sound. As EACH stick is installed you must repeat this process.
– Verify that the correct color is being installed into the correct slot.
– Load the new ink stick with the bumps facing down.
– Closer the ink loader cover.

Print Quality Issues
Xerox has built in cleaning utilities to help with issues such as smearing, lines, and fuzziness. To access these cleaning options;
- Select Troubleshooting and then press the OK button.
- Select Print Quality Problems > OK. Eliminate Light Stripes > OK. Start Basic Clean Cycle > OK.
- The cleaning process takes around 5 minutes. The printer will then print a Light Stripes Test Page. If this page looks good then you are done. If there is issues, follow the on-screen instructions on isolating which lines have the problems
It may be necessary to run a cleaning twice to fully resolve the print quality defect.
If there are blank lines going through the pages or ghosting images then their maintenance kit on the printer may need to be replaced. The maintenance kit contains a maintenance roller that keeps the surface of the Imaging Drum clean and oiled as well as contains a new wiper blade. The maintenance kit will need to be replaced over time usually after anywhere from 10k to 30k pages are printed depending on if they have a standard or extended capacity maintenance kit installed.
Not Fitting
Verify you have the correct ink sticks for your specific printer model. Try re-installing the ink sticks in a different orientation. Make sure you are installing the correct color into the correct color slot.
