THESE TONER CARTRIDGES DO NOT HAVE THE OPC DRUM INTEGRATED. THE DRUM UNIT IS A SEPARATE, REPLACEABLE, MAINTENANCE ITEM. THERE IS AN INDIVIDUAL DRUM UNIT FOR EACH COLOR, BE SURE TO SEPARATE AND RE-USE THE DRUM UNIT FROM THE OLD TONER CARTRIDGE.
There are 4 colors in this series; Black, Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow.
These are compatible cartridges so their appearance may differ greatly from the OEM. They will still work and their appearance differences will have no effect on their performance.
Not Recognizing
Verify you have the correct cartridges for your specific model printer.
This cartridge uses a RF or radio frequency sensor chip that’s located in the small compartment in the gear side of the cartridge opposite the colored cap. This chip does not make physical contact with the printer but rather sits in a specific position to be picked up by the printer’s sensor. Make sure that the cartridge is properly inserted and locks into place to ensure the chip is in the correct position. If the problem persists it is most likely an issue with the chip on the cartridge.
It is important to make sure the cartridge is installed correctly and fully locked into place. To remove and install the toner cartridges into an Okidata C8800 series printer do the following;
– Press the cover release (1). Fully open the printer’s top cover (2).
– Note the color locations of the 4 cartridges and remember the one you are replacing; Cyan (1), Magenta (2), Yellow (3), and Black (4).
– Pull the colored toner release lever on the cartridge to be replaced towards the front of the printer.
– Lift the right-hand end of the cartridge. Then, pull the cartridge to the right to relase the left-hand end. Remove the toner cartridge. NOTE: Be sure that the drum is not being removed along with the cartridge.
– Hold the cartridge by its top center with the colored release lever to the right. Insert the left end of the cartridge into the top of the image drum. Push it firmly against the spring on the drum unit.
– Lower the right end of the cartridge into the image drum unit. Press it firmly down into place. Then, push the colored lock lever back to the open slot and lock it in place. The lever should move easily, if it does not then STOP. Push down on the toner cartridge to be sure that is is seated in the drum unit. Press back on the lever again.
– Underneath the top cover there are the LEDs. Use a soft, dry, clean, lint-free, cloth to gently wipe the LED.
– Close and latch the top cover.
Print Quality Issues
There’s a piece of protective tape on the cartridge which must be removed prior to installation. If this is not fully removed the toner powder will not be able to exit the cartridge.
Gently shake the toner cartridge from side to side to loosen and distribute the toner powder evenly inside the cartridge.
Verify that the cartridge is fully locked inside the printer. When the cartridge is locked this opens the toner shutters on the cartridge which releases the toner powder into the drum unit. If the cartridge is not fully locked then the toner powder will not release properly from the cartridge.
Streaking, lines, ghost imaging, and repeating image defects are drum related issues. The drum unit is a separate, replaceable, maintenance item. After a certain period of usage the drum unit will need to be replaced.
Not Fitting
Make sure that you are installing the toner cartridge into the drum unit. Verify that the drum unit has not been removed from the printer along with the old toner cartridge. If the cartridge appears too small then you are probably not installing it into the drum unit. Check the old toner cartridge and make sure the drum is not still attached.
Make sure the correct color cartridge is being installed into the correct color slot in the drum unit.
Verify that the cartridge lock lever in the printer is unlocked. It should be pushed towards the front of the printer. If the cartridge lock lever is in the locked position then the cartridge will not be able to fit into the slot on the drum.
