THIS IS A TONER THAT HAS THE OPC DRUM BUILT INTO THE CARTRIDGE ITSELF AND IS REPLACED AS ONE WHOLE UNIT. THERE IS NO SEPARATE DRUM UNIT.
Not Recognizing
Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific printer model.
There’s a smart chip located on the back of the toner cartridge which has two gold connection points. Make sure the chip is clean and undamaged. You can use a dry, clean, lint-free cloth to clean the connections.
Ensure that the toner cartridge is properly installed and fully inserted.
To remove and install the toner cartridge into the Laserjet P100 and P1005 printers do the following;
– Open the top cover of the printer. Using the handle, pull the toner cartridge up and out of the printer.
– Holding the new toner cartridge by the handle, insert the toner cartridge into the printer using the guide rails to guide the cartridge down into position. Make sure the cartridge is fully seated in the printer then close the top printer cover.
Print Quality Issues
There is a pull tape seal on the side of the cartridge that must be removed prior to installation. It is important that this seal is completely removed. If the customer is saying the cartridge is printing blank pages or after 2-3 pages it is now printing blank then the pull tape seal has not been removed or has broken off inside the cartridge while being removed.
There is a piece of black paper held on by tape which wraps around the OPC drum that will need to be removed.
The OPC drum is located on the bottom of the cartridge covered by a spring loaded plastic shutter. Lift the shutter up to view the drum. Do NOT touch the OPC drum. You can use a clean, dry, lint-free cloth to gently clean the drum. Do NOT use moisture of any kind.
If the toner is smearing off the paper or isn’t adhering properly, make sure the paper settings on the printer match the paper type being used. Thicker paper, such as labels or bonded paper, require a different paper setting to allow more heating while printing to ensure the toner melts properly to the paper. Trying to print on thicker paper while under that standard paper setting will cause the toner not to get enough heat to melt properly.
Holding the cartridge by its ends, gently rock the cartridge back and forth a few times to redistribute the toner inside the cartridge.
Not Fitting
Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific printer model. Make sure the cartridge is being installed in the correct direction. Check inside the printer for any obstructions that may be interferring with the installation of the toner cartridge. Check the toner cartridge itself for physical damage. Verify that the pull tape seal has been removed from the side of the cartridge.
