THIS IS A TONER THAT HAS THE OPC DRUM BUILT INTO THE CARTRIDGE ITSELF AND IS REPLACED AS ONE WHOLE UNIT.  THERE IS NO SEPARATE DRUM UNIT.

Not Recognizing

Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific printer model.

This cartridge uses a RF or radio frequency sensor chip that’s located on the left-hand-side corner of the end cap. This chip does not make physical contact with the printer but rather sits in a specific position to be picked up by the printer’s sensor. Make sure that the cartridge is properly inserted and locks into place to ensure the chip is in the correct position. If the problem persists it is most likely an issue with the chip on the cartridge.

To remove and install the toner cartridge in a Brother HL-8050n printer do the following;

–          Open the top cover.

–          Hold the toner cartridge by the grip and pull it out slowly.

–          Hold the new toner cartridge by the grip and insert it into the slot inside the printer.  Ensure that the toner cartridge is firmly seated.

–          Close the top cover securely.

Print Quality Issues

There is a pull tape seal on the side of the cartridge which must be removed prior to installation.  It is important that this seal tape is fully removed.  If the cartridge is printing blank pages or printed 2-3 pages and is now printing blank then the pull tape seal hasn’t been removed or has broken off inside the cartridge while being removed.  There is also a piece of white paper surrounding the OPC drum which must be removed.

Gently roll the cartridge a few times to re-distribute the toner powder inside the cartridge.

If the toner is smearing off the paper or isn’t adhering properly, make sure the paper settings on the printer match the paper type being used.  Thicker paper, such as labels or bonded paper, require a different paper setting to allow more heating while printing to ensure the toner melts properly to the paper.  Trying to print on thicker paper while under that standard paper setting will cause the toner not to get enough heat to melt properly.

The OPC drum is located on the bottom of the cartridge protected by a spring loaded plastic shutter.  Lift the shutter to visually inspect the OPC drum for damage or debris.  Do NOT touch the drum.  A soft, clean, dry, lint-free cloth can be used to gently clean the OPC drum if needed.  Do NOT use moisture of any kind.

Not Fitting

Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific printer model.  Make sure the pull tape seal has been removed.  Check inside the printer for any obstructions which may be causing the cartridge not to fit.  Check the cartridge itself for physical damage.
