THIS IS A TONER THAT HAS THE OPC DRUM BUILT INTO THE CARTRIDGE ITSELF AND IS REPLACED AS ONE WHOLE UNIT.  THERE IS NO SEPARATE DRUM UNIT.

This is a remanufactured toner cartridge so this is an OEM cartridge that has been rebuilt to near-new condition.

Not Recognizing

Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific printer model.

There is no smart chip on this cartridge.  Instead, the cartridge uses electrical current inside the toner to sense the presence of toner powder.  Shaking the toner can help extend the life of near empty cartridges and remove the “Toner Low/Prepare New Toner” message until the cartridge is too empty for shaking to make an effect.  At this point, the toner is empty and needs replacing.

Verify that the cartridge is installed properly and that the front cover to the machine is fully closed.

To remove and install the 106 into a Canon ImageClass MF6500 series printer do the following;

–          Open the left cover.

–          Grasp the blue plastic pull tab (A) on the toner cartridge.

–          Pull the blue plastic pull tab until you can easily hold the handle of the toner cartridge.

–          Remove the toner cartridge.

–          Raise the blue plastic pull tab.

–          Make sure to remove the pull tape seal on the side of the new toner cartridge before installing.

–          Hold the new toner cartridge by its handle.

–          Insert the toner cartridge into the machine as far as it will go.

–          Push the toner cartridge to make sure it is properly set in the machine.

–          Close the left cover.

Print Quality Issues

There’s a pull tape seal on the side of the cartridge which must be removed prior to installation.  It is important that this pull tape seal is fully removed.  If the customer is saying the cartridge is printing blank pages or printed 2-3 pages and now is printing blank then this pull tape seal has not been removed or has broken off inside the cartridge while being removed.

Gently rock the toner cartridge 5 or 6 times to distribute the toner powder evenly inside the cartridge.

If black streaks appear with printing, the fuser roller in the main unit may be dirty.  The roller should be cleaned each time the toner cartridge is replaced to help maintain print quality. To clean the fuser roller do the following;

–          Make sure to have plain white paper readily available.

–          Press [Additional Functions].

–          Press [◄-] or [+►] to select <ADJUST./CLEANING>, then press [OK].

–          Open the multi-purpose tray.

–          Pull out the multi-purpose tray extension until it clicks, then open it.

–          Load a sheet of plain white paper.

–          Press [◄-] or [+►] to select <FIX. UNIT CLEANING>, then press [OK].

–          Cleaning will start and when finished the display returns to standby mode.  Toss the cleaning paper after use.

The OPC drum is located on the bottom of the cartridge protected by a spring loaded plastic shutter.  Lift the shutter to visually inspect the OPC drum for damage or debris.  Do NOT touch the drum.  A soft, clean, dry, lint-free cloth can be used to gently clean the OPC drum if needed.  Do NOT use moisture of any kind.

Not Fitting

Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific printer model.  Make sure the cartridge is being installed in the correct direction.  Check inside the printer for any obstructions that may be interfering with the installation of the toner cartridge.  Check the toner cartridge itself for physical damage.  Verify that the pull tape seal has been removed from the side of the cartridge.
