The TN700 toner cartridge and DR700 drum unit are two separate units that are sold individually. The drum unit generally needs replacing after 4-6 toner cartridge changes. When replacing the toner cartridge the existing drum unit MUST be separated from the old toner cartridge and re-used with the new toner cartridge.
This is a remanufactured toner cartridge so this is an OEM cartridge that has been rebuilt to near-new condition.
Not Recognizing
Verify you have the correct toner cartridge or drum unit for your specific printer model.
The toner cartridge uses a small fuse that acts as a “smart chip”. The fuse is located inside the handle of the cartridge and looks like a resistor. The fuse is NOT visible without disassembling the handle which is not suggested. After a period of usage the fuse will break which tells the printer the cartridge needs to be replaced. If the LCD shows CARTRIDGE ERROR, take out the toner cartridge and then put it back into the printer again. If the problem persists then there’s probably an issue with the fuse and the cartridge should be replaced.
Not Fitting
The toner cartridge and drum unit are two separate pieces that install into each other. When replacing the toner cartridge you MUST remove the old drum unit from the old toner cartridge and re-use it with the new toner cartridge. Install the new toner cartridge into the old drum unit before installing them into the printer. If the toner cartridge appears too small, then you may be attempting to install the toner cartridge on its own without the drum unit. Make sure they install the toner into the drum first then install into the printer.
To remove and install the TN700 toner cartridge in a Brother HL-7050 printer do the following;
– Open the top cover of the printer.
– Push down the blue lock lever and take out the toner cartridge. Be sure you are not removing the drum unit with the toner cartridge.
NOTE: If they do remove the drum with the toner, they will need to separate the two pieces and re-use the drum unit. To remove the toner from the drum, press down on the blue lock lever and pull the toner out from the drum unit.
– Put the new toner cartridge firmly into the printer. If you put it in properly, the blue lock lever will lift automatically.
– Close the top of the printer.
Print Quality Issues
There’s a piece of black paper held on by tape on the front of the cartridge which must be removed prior to installation.
Gently rock the toner cartridge side to side a few times to redistribute the toner powder.
For many print quality issues, the primary corona wire in the drum unit may need cleaning. To clean the primary corona wire on the drum unit do the following;
– Open the top cover.
– Take out the drum unit assembly (drum unit with the toner cartridge installed).
– Clean the primary corona wire inside the drum unit by gently sliding the blue tab from right to left several times. Make sure to return the tab to the home position. If you do not, printed pages will have a vertical black stripe.
– Put the drum unit assembly back in the printer.
– Close the top cover.
On the TN700 toner cartridge check the rubber roller on the front for damage or debris. Do NOT touch the rubber roller or use moisture of any kind around the toner cartridge.
If the toner is smearing off the paper or isn’t adhering properly, make sure the paper settings on the printer match the paper type being used. Thicker paper, such as labels or bonded paper, require a different paper setting to allow more heating while printing to ensure the toner melts properly to the paper. Trying to print on thicker paper while under that standard paper setting will cause the toner not to get enough heat to melt properly.
The drum unit is a separate, replaceable, maintenance item and will need to be replaced after a period of usage; generally every 4-6 toner cartridge changes. Ghosting, streaking, and lines are drum related issues.
Leaking
The toner cartridge is not sealed so it is normal for a small amount of toner to leak into the packaging. Vibrations during shipping may cause the roller on the cartridge to rotate releasing a small amount of toner. The outside casing of the cartridge can be gently wiped with a dry cloth. Do NOT wipe or touch the rubber roller on the front of the cartridge. Do NOT use moisture of any kind.
