THIS IS A TONER THAT HAS THE OPC DRUM BUILT INTO THE CARTRIDGE ITSELF AND IS REPLACED AS ONE WHOLE UNIT. THERE IS NO SEPARATE DRUM UNIT.
Not Recognizing
Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific model printer.
These cartridges do not have chips. Instead, the Canon User’s Guide recommends replacing the toner when the prints are extremely light or there are white lines in the print and gently rocking the toner doesn’t help.
Check to make sure the cartridge is correctly installed and firmly in place.
To remove and install the toner cartridge in a Canon Faxphone do the following;
NOTE: A variety of Canon machines can use the FX3. The procedure is roughly similar however for detailed instructions for specific printer models please refer to the User’s Guide for the printer available on Canon’s website.
– Lift the latch and open the front cover.
– Hold the cartridge by its handle and remove it from the machine.
– Hold the new cartridge by its handle and insert it into the machine as far as it wil go, making sure that its tabs are aligned with the rails inside the machine.
– Use both hands to close the front cover.
Print Quality Issues
There is a pull tape seal on the side of the cartridge which must be removed prior to installation. It is important that this pull tape seal is completely removed. If the cartridge is printing blank pages or printed 1-2 pages and is not printing blank this pull tape seal probably hasn’t been removed or has broken off inside the cartridge while being removed.
Gently rock the cartridge from side to side a few times to distribute the toner evenly inside it.
If the toner is smearing off the paper or isn’t adhering properly, make sure the paper settings on the printer match the paper type being used. Thicker paper, such as labels or bonded paper, require a different paper setting to allow more heating while printing to ensure the toner melts properly to the paper. Trying to print on thicker paper while under that standard paper setting will cause the toner not to get enough heat to melt properly.
The OPC drum is located on the bottom of the cartridge and is protected by a spring loaded plastic shutter. Lift this shutter to visually inspect the OPC drum for damage or debris. Do NOT touch the drum. A soft, clean, dry, lint-free cloth can be used to gently wipe the OPC drum if needed. Do NOT use moisture of any kind.
Not Fitting
Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific printer model. Check the inside of the printer for obstructions that may be interfering with the cartridge install. Check the cartridge itself for physical damage. Make sure the pull tape seal has been removed as it it’s still present it may cause fitting issues. Verify the cartridge is being installed in the correct direction and that it’s being installed along the rails inside the printer.
