THIS IS A TONER THAT HAS THE OPC DRUM BUILT INTO THE CARTRIDGE ITSELF AND IS REPLACED AS ONE WHOLE UNIT. THERE IS NO SEPARATE DRUM UNIT.
Not Recognizing
Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific model printer.
These cartridges do not have chips. They do not track the page count or give a courtesy warning when the toner is low. Instead, the Canon User’s Guide recommends replacing the toner when the prints are extremely light or there are white lines in the print and gently rocking the toner doesn’t help.
Check to make sure the cartridge is correctly installed and firmly in place.
Print Quality Issues
There is a pull tape seal on the side of the cartridge which must be removed prior to installation. It is important that this pull tape seal is fully removed. If the cartridge is printing blank pages or has printed 1-2 pages and now prints blank this pull tape seal probably hasn’t been removed or broke off inside the cartridge while being removed.
The OPC drum is located on the bottom of the cartridge. Visually inspect the OPC drum. Do NOT touch the OPC drum. A clean, soft, dry, lint-free cloth can be used to gently wipe the drum if needed. Do NOT use moisture of any kind.
If the toner is smearing off the paper or isn’t adhering properly, make sure the paper settings on the printer match the paper type being used. Thicker paper, such as labels or bonded paper, require a different paper setting to allow more heating while printing to ensure the toner melts properly to the paper. Trying to print on thicker paper while under that standard paper setting will cause the toner not to get enough heat to melt properly.
Holding the cartridge by its ends; gently rock it left to right a few times to re-distribute the toner powder inside the cartridge.
Not Fitting
Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific printer model. Check inside the printer for any debris or obstructions which may be interfering with the cartridge going in. Check the cartridge for any physical damage. Make sure the cartridge is being installed in the correct direction. Verify the pull tape has been removed from the side of the cartridge, if the tape hasn’t been removed it may get in the way of the cartridge fitting down properly.
