THIS IS A TONER THAT HAS THE IMAGING DRUM BUILT INTO THE CARTRIDGE ITSELF AND IS REPLACED AS ONE WHOLE UNIT. THERE IS NO SEPARATE DRUM.

Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific printer.
This cartridge does not use a smart chip. Verify that the cartridge is fully inserted into the printer. HP recommends replacing the cartridge when the prints are light and rocking the cartridge has no effect.
To install the cartridge into a Laserjet 1018 do the following;
The procedure will be very similar for other HP printers that use the Q2612A, however if you need specific instructions for a particular printer model the User’s Guides are available on HP’s website.
– Open the print cartridge door, and remove the print cartridge from the printer.
– Insert the new cartridge into the printer using the guide rails built into the printer to properly position the cartridge into place. Make sure the cartridge is fully inserted then close the print cartridge door.

Print Quality Issues
There is a pull tape seal on the side of the cartridge which must be removed prior to installation. It is important that this pull tape seal is completely removed. If the cartridge is printing blank pages then the pull tape seal probably hasn’t been removed or has broken off inside the cartridge when being removed.
Try gently rocking the cartridge from front to back 5 times to redistribute the toner powder inside the cartridge.
If the toner is smearing off the paper or isn’t adhering properly, make sure the paper settings on the printer match the paper type being used. Thicker paper, such as labels or bonded paper, require a different paper setting to allow more heating while printing to ensure the toner melts properly to the paper. Trying to print on thicker paper while under that standard paper setting will cause the toner not to get enough heat to melt properly.
The OPC drum is located on the bottom of the cartridge protected by a spring loaded plastic shutter. Lift the shutter to view the OPC drum. Visually inspect the OPC drum for damage or debris. Do NOT touch the OPC drum. A soft, dry, clean, lint-free cloth can be used to gently wipe the drum. Do NOT use moisture of any kind.
