INK TANK – The print head is separate, do NOT perform the paper towel method.

There are a number of different colors available in this series of cartridges.  Not all the printers that use the PGI-9 are able to use all the different available color cartridges so it is important to verify they have the correct cartridge for their specific printer model.

These are compatible cartridges; there will be appearance differences between these and the OEMs.  These differences will not affect the function of the cartridge.

Not Recognizing

Verify you have the correct cartridges for your specific printer model.

There is a smart chip located on the clip of the cartridge.  Check the chip for damage or debris.  A clean, soft, lint-free cloth can be used to gently clean the gold connections.

Check to make sure the correct color is being installed into the correct color slot.  Make sure the cartridge is fully clicked into place.

The Pro9500 printer is able to use the entire PGI-9 series of cartridges.  To remove and install the cartridges into the Pro9500 do the following;

For instructions for other Canon printers that use the PGI-9 cartridges the User’s Guides for all Canon printers are available on Canon’s website.

–          Open the front tray and then open the top cover.

–          Push the tab and remove the ink tank.

–          Insert the ink tank into the print head.

–          Press down onto the ink tank until it snaps firmly into place.  A red ink light will light up if the cartridge is installed correctly.

–          Close the top cover.  The printer will then shake and charge the cartridges.

Print Quality Issues

There is a yellow tape seal on the top of the cartridge which must be removed prior to installation.  This opens a vent hole.  There is also an orange protective clip on the bottom of the cartridge which must be removed.

Try to determine where the print quality defect is occuring.  See if it occuring with a particular color or if it is appearing across the page regardless of color.  Printing a nozzle check pattern page can help with trying to determine the defect.  To print this page on a Pro9500 do the following;

For instructions for other Canon printers that use the PGI-9 cartridges the User’s Guides for all Canon printers are available on Canon’s website.

–          Make sure plain white paper is loaded into the auto sheet feeder.

–          Open the front try and then pull out the front tray extension.

–          Hold down the RESUME/CANCEL button until the power light flashes blue twice, then release it immediately.  The nozzle check pattern will print.

–          Check the nozzle check pattern to see where the print quality defect is occuring.

The cartridges need to be shaken about once a week.  The Pro9500 has a built in shaking feature that can be used to shake the cartridges.  To use this feature on the Pro9500 do the following;

–          Press the RESUME/CANCEL button on the printer once.  The printer vibrates for about 10 seconds to two minutes.  Do not open the top cover while the power light is flashing blue.

If shaking the cartridges doesn’t resolve the issue a print head cleaning should be performed.  To perform a print head cleaning on the Pro9500 do the following;

For instructions for other Canon printers that use the PGI-9 cartridges the User’s Guides for all Canon printers are available on Canon’s website.

–          Press and hold down the RESUME/CANCEL button until the power light flashes blue once, and then release it immediately.

–          The cleaning process will begin automatically.

Print head cleaning may need to be done twice to completely resolve a print quality issue.  If the second cleaning does not resolve the issue try running a third cleaning but allow the printer to sit for 10 minutes before attempting to print.  This allows the ink to soak on the print head and loosen any dried ink.

Our compatible cartridges are made of clear plastic so the ink level can be visually inspected.  If the prints are coming out light and the ink level is extremely low in the cartridge then a new cartridge should be installed.

Not Fitting

Make sure you have the correct cartridges for your specific printer model.  Also, check to make sure the correct color is being installed into the correct color slot.

There is what appears to be a clear plastic clip on the bottom of the cartridge.  Make sure this has NOT been removed.

Verify you have removed the orange plastic clip on the bottom of the cartridge.
