Print Quality Issues
Do NOT remove the clear piece of plastic covering the nozzle on the bottom. The printer will puncture this during installation.
For any print quality related issue a print head cleaning should be performed. Try to determine which color the defect is occurring in. Print a test page and see if the problem is only occurring with one color or if it is occurring across all the colors. To perform a print head cleaning on a MFC-290C printer do the following;
– Press the Menu button.
– Use the up and down arrows to scroll to Ink. Press the OK button.
– Use the up and down arrows to scroll to Cleaning. Press OK.
– Use the up and down arrows to select Black, Color, or All depending on what needs cleaning. Press OK to begin cleaning.
For print head cleaning instructions on other Brother printers that use the LC61 cartridges the User’s Guides are available on Brother’s website.
Remove the cartridge and cover the vent hole with a paper towel. Check the nozzle on the bottom to ensure that it has been properly punctured. Check the slot in the printer to make sure there is no debris which may be interfering with the ink flow.
