INK TANK – These do not have the print heads integrated. Do NOT perform the paper towel method.
These are the Extra High Yield version of the High Yield LC75 cartridges. The LC79 black is physically thicker than the LC75 black whereas the LC79 colors are physically the same size as the LC75 colors but contain more ink inside. The LC79 can’t be used in all the printers that use the LC75s so its important to verify the printer model these are being installed into.
These are compatible cartridges so there will be design differences between these and the OEMs. These differences will not affect the function of the cartridges. We recently changed to a newer compatible cartridge, this cartridge looks much different from both our older compatibles and the OEM. Although much different in appearance it will function.
Not Recognizing
Verify you have the correct cartridges for your specific printer model.
These cartridges do not use smart chips. Instead the printer has an optical sensor that views into a window on the cartridge to determine if a cartridge is present and its ink level. There is no window on this cartridge, instead it uses a plastic tab that acts as the ink for the optical sensor. Make sure the cartridge is fully inserted into the printer so that the tab is in the correct position to be picked up by the optical sensor.
Make sure that the cartridge fully inserted into the printer and that the correct color is being installed into the correct slot. The color order from left to right is Black, Yellow, Cyan, and Magenta.
To remove and reinstall the cartridges in the MFC-J6510DW, MFC-J6710DW, and MFC-J6910DW printers do the following;
– Open the ink cartridge cover.
– Press the lock release level to release the cartridge that needs replacing. Pull the cartridge out of its slot.
– Insert the new cartridge with the nozzle facing towards the printer and the nozzle on the lower side of the cartridge (NOTE: Our cartridges being compatible will appear slightly different than the OEMs). Firmly push on the back of the ink cartridge until clicks, then close the cartridge cover.
– The printer will ask if a new cartridge has been installed. Press 1 to select yes for the cartridges that have been replaced.
Print Quality Issues
Do NOT remove the clear piece of plastic that covers the nozzle, the printer will puncture this.
For print quality issues a print head cleaning should be performed. Cleanings consume ink so they should be done sparingly. If the first cleaning doesn’t resolve the issue, try running a second cleaning but allow the printer to sit for 10 minutes before attempting to print so the ink can soak onto the print head and loosen any dried ink that may be clogging the nozzles.
Try to determine which color is causing the issue. Print a test page and see if the defect is occuring with a particular color or if its showing up across all the colors. These Brother printers allow you to choose to clean just the black print head, the color print heads, or you can clean all the print heads. If the defect is only occuring when something is being scanned and copied using the scanner but NOT when printing from the computer then the scanner glass should be cleaned.
To perform a print head cleaning do the following;
– Press Menu
– Press the up or down arrows to choose Ink. Press OK.
– Press the up or down arrows to choose Black, Color, or All depending on which print head(s) need cleaning. Press OK to begin the cleaning.
You can also remove the cartridge and check to make sure the nozzle on the cartridge has been properly punctured. While the cartridge is out, cover the vent hole and nozzle hole with a paper towel and then gently shake the cartridge.
Not Fitting
Verify you have the correct cartridges for your specific printer model, this is especially important as these are extra high yield cartridges that work only with specific printer models. Check to make sure you are installing the correct color into the correct slot. The color order from left to right on the printer is Black, Yellow, Cyan, and Magenta. Make sure you are installing the cartridge in the correct orientation, the vent hole should be on top and the nozzle should be facing the printer.
