THESE CARTRIDGES DO NOT HAVE THE OPC DRUM UNIT INTEGRATED. THERE IS A SEPARATE AND REPLACEABLE DRUM UNIT THAT THE CARTRIDGES INSTALL INTO.
Not Recognizing
Verify you have the correct toner cartridge for your specific model printer.
NOTE: Closing the printer door too forcefully can cause you to get an error message on the black toner cartridge. This happens on the OEM cartridges as well and is not a cartridge issue. When the door is closed too forcefully it causes the cartridge to move out of place which gives a missing toner error message. To resolve this, remove the toner cartridge and reinstall. Then, GENTLY close the printer door.
On the side of the cartridge there is a flag gear which hits an actuator inside the printer to let the printer know a new cartridge has been installed and resets the page count. The flag gear sits in a certain position to properly reset the printer. If the flag gear is in the incorrect position then the printer will read the cartridge as empty or low.
Check to make sure that the cartridge is installed correctly and that it is fully inserted. The cartridges install directly into the drum unit and there is one single drum unit for all the cartridges. The drum unit must be re-used so make sure they are installing the new cartridges into the existing drum unit. On both the HL and MFC printers you will open the front cover, pull out the drum unit containing the cartridges, remove the specific cartridge being replaced from the drum unit, install the new cartridge, and re-insert the drum unit into the printer.
Be sure that the correct color is being installed into the correct color slot. The color order from top to bottom on the drum unit is; Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black.
Print Quality Issues
There is a yellow/orange plastic cover which must be removed from the front of the cartridge prior to installation.
Grab the cartridge by its ends and gently shake it from side to side several times to distribute the toner evenly inside the cartridge.
On the drum unit, there is a green tab on each color slot to clean the corona wire. You will need to open the cover to the corona wire for the particular color you are trying to clean. To do this, push on the cover to release the latches and open the cover.
With the covers open, clean the corona wire inside the drum unit gently sliding the green tab from left to right and right to left several times. Be sure to return the tab to the home position designated by a small triangle symbol (referenced by the 1 in the picture below)
Streaking, lines, ghosting, and repeating image defects are drum related issues. If you are getting one blank line down the page then check to make sure the corona wire tabs are in the home position. Otherwise, the drum unit is a replaceable maintenance item that will need to be replaced usually after 4-6 toner changes. We carry a replacement OEM drum unit.
Check the outputted pages to see where the image defect is occurring. Try to see if there is a pattern with the defect and a particular color.
