THIS IS A TONER THAT HAS THE OPC DRUM BUILT INTO THE CARTRIDGE ITSELF AND IS REPLACED AS ONE WHOLE UNIT.  THERE IS NO SEPARATE DRUM UNIT.

Not Recognizing

 

Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific printer model.

 

There’s a smart chip located on the front of each toner cartridge which has four gold connection points.  Make sure the chip is clean and undamaged.  You can use a Q-Tip to reach between the slats to clean the connections.

 

Make sure the cartridge is being installed correctly and is fully inserted.  Tabs on the sides of the cartridge and corresponding grooves within the printer will guide the cartridge into the correct position until it locks into place fully.

 

Leaking

 

This toner does not have any pull seal tabs and as a result a little toner dust on the cartridge is normal.  The paper that protects the OPC drum during shipping has a piece of foam that covers the OPC drum to help collect any loose toner dust as well as protect the drum during transit.  However, vibrations during shipping may cause the OPC drum to rotate a little and allow a little toner powder to leak.  This is normal.  You can clean excess toner dust off the cartridge by gently wiping the cartridge with a clean, dry, lint-free cloth or gently blowing on it.  Be careful with compressed air as this may blow too powerfully and blow toner powder out of the cartridge.

 

Print Quality Issues

 

There is a piece of paper held on by tape that protects the OPC drum which must be removed prior to installation.

 

Holding the cartridge by its ends, gently roll the cartridge from left to right a few times to evenly distribute the toner powder inside the cartridge.

 

The OPC drum is located on the bottom of the cartridge.  Visually check for scratches or debris on the drum.  Do not touch the OPC drum.  If need be, clean the OPC drum using a dry, soft, lint-free cloth.  Do not use moisture of any kind.

 

There is no protective drum shutter on this cartridge to protect the OPC drum so caution must be taken in handling this cartridge to prevent damage to the drum.  Be careful with setting the cartridge down on a surface because being that the OPC drum is located on the bottom of the cartridge it can easily be scratched or nicked.

 

There is a cleaning function on the printer.  However, this should only be given to the customers who are experiencing minor specks and dots on the page and are on their 2nd cartridge. For bad print quality issues or streaking the problem is most likely with the cartridge rather than the printer and a new cartridge should be reshipped instead of attempting this.  To do the cleaning;

1.  Before starting the cleaning procedure, make sure that paper is loaded in the machine.

2.  Press Menu on the control panel until “Maintenance” appears on the top line of the display.  The first available menu item, “Clean Drum,” displays on the bottom line.

3.  Press Enter. The first available menu item, “Yes” displays on the bottom line.

4.  Press Enter.  The machine prints out a cleaning page. Toner particles on the drum surface are affixed to the paper.
