THE EPSON PRO 9600 HAS TWO VERSIONS, ONE THAT USES DYE CARTRIDGES AND ONE THAT USES PIGMENT, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE CORRECT CARTRIDGES BASED ON THE PRINTER ENGINE YOU HAVE.

INK TANK – These don’t have a print head attached so DO NOT do the paper towel method.

Not Recognizing

Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific model printer.

Make sure the cartridge is installed correctly and fully inserted.  Make sure that you are installing the right color into the right slot.

If you are getting a INVALID INK CARTRIDGE error, you may be able to override this and force the printer to re-read the cartridge.  Hold down the PAUSE button for a few seconds.  The printer will restart.  This solution only works for the error message INVALID INK CARTRIDGE and will not work for WRONG INK CARTRIDGE which can be caused by a chip error or the wrong color being installed into the incorrect color slot.

There is a smart chip on the cartridge located on the end that is installed into the printer.  Check to see if there is any dirt or damage on the gold contact points.  You can use a dry Q-tip to gently wipe the chip contacts.

You can try resetting the machine.  To do this; remove the cartridges from the printer, power the printer off, unplug the power cord for 10-15 seconds, re-insert the power cord, turn the printer on, and re-insert the cartridges.

Not Fitting

These are the high capacity, 220 ml version of the cartridges.  Whether you are using original Epson cartridges or our cartridges the front cover for the ink cartridges will not close when using the high capacity cartridges.  Epson states in their User Guide for this printer that the cover must remain open when using the high capacity cartridges.

Print Quality Issues

There is a piece of paper tape on the nozzle of the cartridge that needs to be removed prior to installation.  Take care in removing this seal to prevent leaking.

Run a print head cleaning on the printer. To do this, press the Menu button on the printer itself for 3 seconds.  If the first cleaning doesn’t work, run a second cleaning but let the printer sit for 10-15 minutes before trying to print after the cleaning finishes.  This allows the ink on the print head to soak and loosen any clogs.

Epson also recommends gently shaking the cartridge.  Make sure to use a napkin or paper towel to cover the ink port on the cartridge so the customer doesn’t get ink on themselves.  Covering the ink port gently shake the cartridge left to right a few times.
