THESE CARTRIDGES DO NOT HAVE THE OPC DRUM UNIT INTEGRATED.  THERE IS AN INDIVIDUAL DRUM UNIT FOR EACH COLOR WHICH IS A REPLACEABLE MAINTENANCE ITEM.

Not Recognizing

Verify they have the correct drum unit for their specific model printer.

Make the toner cartridge is properly installed and fully inserted into the printer.  There is no smart chip instead the printer checks with a visual sensor whether toner powder is present or not.  This makes it important that the cartridge is fully inserted to ensure the visual sensor is correctly lined with the cartridge.  Also be sure they are installing the correct color into the correct spot.

It’s also good to shake the cartridge to make sure the toner powder is evenly dispensed inside the toner, including the window area the printer’s optical sensor looks at to check the toner level.

Print Quality Issues

There is a piece a paper held on by tape that needs to be removed and then a black paper seal that will need to be pulled prior to installation.

The drum is separate from the cartridge.  There is an individual drum for each color.  The drums are located on the front panel of the printer that they open to access the toner cartridges.  See the pic below for reference on where the OPC drums are located in the printer.

Almost all ghost imaging, lines, streaks, and repeating image defects will be caused by a bad drum.  The drums are replaceable maintenance items that will need to be replaced usually after 4-6 toner changes.  We do not currently carry replacement drum units.

There is a roller on the front of the toner cartridge that dispenses the toner powder onto the separate OPC drum.  You can check this roller for cracks or damage.  Do NOT touch the roller.  Being that this dispenses toner powder it is normal for this roller to be coated in toner powder.  Do not wipe the toner powder off the roller.  Be careful in handling the cartridge as slight toner powder leakage is possible if the roller is moved.

Over a trash can, shake the cartridge front to back and side to side to redistribute the toner powder inside the cartridge.

There is also a print quality test page you can print to help isolate print quality problems.  To print this test page, do the following:

1 Make sure paper is loaded in Tray 1.

2 Turn the printer off.

3 From the printer control panel, press and hold √ and the right arrow button while turning the printer on.

4 Release both buttons when the clock appears, and wait for Config Menu to appear.

The print quality test pages print.

6 Press the up or down arrow button until Exit Config Menu appears, and then press √.

Resetting the Printer appears briefly, followed by a clock, and then Ready appears.

Check the print quality test page to help determine the printing defect that is occurring.
