THIS IS A TONER THAT HAS THE OPC DRUM BUILT INTO THE CARTRIDGE ITSELF AND IS REPLACED AS ONE WHOLE UNIT. THERE IS NO SEPARATE DRUM UNIT.
Not Recognizing
Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific printer model.
There is a smart chip located on the front of the cartridge. Check the four gold connections through the slots on the cartridge for damage or debris. A Q-tip can be used to reach between the slots and clean the chip contacts.
Make sure the cartridge is installed correctly and that it is fully inserted into the printer. There are tabs on the sides of the cartridge that correspond with grooves within the printer that help guide the cartridge into the correct position.
You can also try resetting the printer by turning the printer off, disconnecting the power cord for 10-15 seconds, plugging the printer back on, and turning the printer on.
Print Quality Issues
There is a plastic clip on the back of the cartridge which must be removed as well as a pull tape seal on the side of the cartridge which must be removed prior to installation. It is important that the pull tape seal is fully removed from the cartridge. If the cartridge is printing blank pages then the pull tape seal probably hasn’t been removed or it has broken off inside the cartridge while being removed.
Holding the cartridge by its ends, shake the cartridge 3-4 times to redistribute the toner powder inside of the cartridge.
The OPC drum is located on the bottom of the cartridge protected by a spring loaded plastic shutter. Lift the shutter to view the OPC drum. Do NOT touch the drum. Visually inspect the OPC drum for damage or debris. A soft, clean, dry, lint-free cloth can be used to gently wipe the OPC drum. Do NOT use moisture of any kind.
