THIS TONER CARTRIDGE DOES NOT HAVE THE OPC DRUM UNIT INTEGRATED.  THERE IS A SEPERATE DRUM UNIT WHICH IS A REPLACEABLE MAINTENANCE ITEM.

THIS ARTICLE ALSO COVERS THE SEPARATE DRUM UNIT THAT WE SELL.

These are universal items so they are used in a variety printers.  Verify the specific toner cartridge and drum unit the printer uses by referencing the User’s Manual of the printer.

Not Recognizing

Verify you have the correct toner cartridge or drum unit for your specific model printer.

This toner does not use a smart chip, instead the printer counts pages and at a certain page count will give the message to replace the toner.  The page count must be manually reset by the user when installing a new cartridge.  Reset the toner counter by pressing the LIFE key (flip up the Rapid Key overlay), the 2 key, and the START key at the same time.

The drum unit must also have its page count manually reset when it is replaced.  Reset the drum counter by pressing the LIFE key (flip up the Rapid Key overlay), the 3 key, and the START key at the same time.

Print Quality Issues

The toner and drum unit are two separate pieces however they don’t install as one piece like Brother toner and drum units do.  Instead, the drum unit installs along specific grooves inside the printer and the toner follows behind on different grooves which then click into the printer.  So, when the toner is removed from the printer it can only be removed separately from the drum unit.

On the toner cartridge there is a piece of protective paper held on by tape that must be removed prior to installation.  On the drum unit there is nothing to be removed.

The drum unit installs first into the printer.  Verify that the drum unit is installed correctly.  Insert the drum cartridge into the print compartment, aligning the guides on the cartridge with the grooves on the sides of the compartment.  Insert the cartridge by aligning the colored “1” labels on the cartridge and the sides of the compartment. Make sure the drum cartridge is inserted in as far as it will go.

The toner cartridge installs behind the drum unit.  Hold the toner cartridge by the handle and lower it into the print compartment. Make sure that the four pins (two on each side) fit into the grooves on the sides of the compartment. Insert the cartridge by aligning the colored “2” labels on the cartridge and the side of the compartment.  Make sure the toner cartridge clicks into place.

For light printing try shaking the toner.  Hold the cartridge by its ends and gently rock and roll the cartridge left to right a few times to evenly distribute the toner powder inside the toner cartridge.

On the drum unit, the OPC drum is covered by a spring loaded plastic cover.  Lift this cover up to view the OPC drum.  Do NOT touch the drum.  Visually check the OPC drum for damage or debris.  A dry, clean, soft, lint-free cloth can be used to gently wipe the OPC drum.  Do NOT use moisture of any kind.

On the toner cartridge, toner powder is dispensed onto the separate OPC drum via a rubber roller on the toner cartridge.  The rubber roller is located on the front of the toner cartridge and is covered by a spring loaded plastic cover.  You can visually inspect the rubber roller for any cracks or debris stuck in the rubber by lifting up the spring loaded plastic cover.  Ghosting, repeating printing defects, and lines are almost always caused by the drum unit.  The drum unit is sold separately and we do sell the drum unit.
