THESE ARE TONERS THAT HAVE THE IMAGING DRUMS BUILT INTO THE CARTRIDGES THEMSELVES AND IS REPLACED AS ONE WHOLE UNIT.  THERE IS NO SEPARATE DRUM.

Not Recognizing

 

Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific printer.

 

There’s a smart chip located on the back of the cartridge.  Check to make sure the two gold contacts are clean and undamaged.  You can use a clean, dry, soft, lint-free cloth to wipe the contacts.

 

Make the cartridges are installed correctly and are installed into the correct color slot.

Print Quality Issues

 

The OPC drum is located on the front of the cartridge and is protected by a spring loaded plastic cover.  Pull up the spring loaded cover to view the OPC drum.  Do NOT touch the drum.  Check the OPC drum for any damage or debris.  You can use a clean, dry, soft, lint-free cloth to gently clean the drum.  Do NOT use moisture of any kind.

 

Holding the cartridge by its ends, gently roll the cartridge left to right a few times to redistribute the toner powder inside the cartridge.

 

HP has a Print Quality Troubleshooting Page feature that prints a test page to help determine print quality defects.  To print this test page;

1. Press Menu to enter the MENUS.

2. Press to highlight DIAGNOSTICS.

3. Press to select DIAGNOSTICS.

4. Press to highlight PQ TROUBLESHOOTING.

5. Press to select PQ TROUBLESHOOTING.

 

Check the test page to see what the print defect is and which colors are affected.  If a particular color is ghost imaging, streaking badly, or printing a repetitive pattern then that particular color cartridge should be replaced.
