THE OPC DRUM IS NOT INTERGRATED INTO THE TONER CARTRIDGES.  THE DRUM UNIT IS A SEPARATE, REPLACEABLE MAINTENANCE ITEM.

Not Recognizing

Verify you have the correct cartridges for your specific model printer.

There are no smart chips on these.  Instead, the cartridges have a window that work with an optical sensor inside the printer to determine whether the toner is empty or not.  The window is located on the bottom of the cartridge.

These cartridges install into a carousel inside the printer that rotates to the color selected on the control panel.  Be sure that the correct color is being installed, that the cartridge is fully inserted, and that the toner is locked into place.

If you are having trouble fitting the cartridge into the printer make sure that the toner cartridge shutter is closed on the cartridge.  If the shutter is open the cartridge will not install properly.

It is important that the cartridge locks into place properly.  As each cartridge is inserted into the carousel, round posts “A” on both ends of the cartridge fit into channels on both sides of the printer.  Make sure the posts slide all the way to the bottom of the channels.  A square tab “B” on the front of each cartridge fits into a cutout on the printer.  Make sure the square tab is all the way down in the cutout.  If it isn’t then the carousel will give a 54.2 error code.

Print Quality Issues

There is a pull tape seal on the side of the cartridge that must be removed before installation.  Be sure that the pull tape was fully removed from the cartridge.

The drum unit is a separate, replaceable maintenance item.  Streaking, lines, ghost imaging, and repetitive print defects are usually a drum related problem.  The drum unit will need to be replaced after around 4-6 toner changes.  We do carry the replacement drum unit

Holding the cartridge by its ends, gently roll the cartridge left to right a few times to evenly distribute the toner powder inside the cartridge.
