THIS IS A TONER THAT HAS THE OPC DRUM BUILT INTO THE CARTRIDGE ITSELF AND IS REPLACED AS ONE WHOLE UNIT. THERE IS NO SEPARATE DRUM UNIT.
Not Recognizing
Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific model printer.
Make sure the cartridges are being installed correctly and that the colors are being installed into the correct color slots on the printer.
The order the cartridges should be installed from top to bottom is: Black, Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow
There is a smart chip located on the back of the cartridge. Check to ensure that the two gold contacts are clean and undamaged. You may use a soft, dry, lint-free cloth to gently wipe the connections.
Print Quality Issues
There is a piece of paper held on by tape that must be removed prior to installation. As you pull this piece of paper off it also pulls and removes black paper from the OPC drum that releases the toner powder.
The OPC drum is located on the front of the toner cartridge. Visually check the OPC drum for damage or debris. Do NOT touch the OPC drum. You can use a clean, dry, lint-free cloth to gently clean the drum. Do NOT use moisture of any kind.
There is no protective drum shutter on this cartridge to protect the OPC drum so caution must be taken in handling this cartridge to prevent damage to the drum. The OPC drum can easily be scratched or nicked and you also do not want to get any fingerprint oil on the drum as this may damage it.
Holding the cartridge by its ends, gently rock it left to right a few times to ensure the toner powder is evenly distributed inside the cartridge.
You can also run a Color Test Page to help determine print quality issues. You access this through the operator panel on the printer itself. In the Menu select the Report/List option. Scroll to Color Test Page and select it. The printer will print a test page which you can use to determine the print quality defect.
