Updated June 5th, 2014

We had a couple batches of these from two suppliers that don’t recognize properly.  All the inventory from those suppliers has been liquidated.  Our current and only supplier for these now do not have the recognition issue.

INK TANK – These don’t have a print head attached so DO NOT do the paper towel method.

The red or pink color is not always the same as the Pitney Bowes brand but the ink is approved by the post office.  The red just needs to be florescent so the post office machines can read the stamp.

Not Recognizing

Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific machine.  Be aware of the differences between the Pitney Bowes 765-0, 765-3 and 765-9 cartridges. Make sure you have the right cartridge for your machine.

There is a smart chip located on the bottom of the cartridge.  Check to make sure it is undamaged and free of debris.  A Q-tip can be used to gently wipe the gold connections.

When installing a new cartridge you will need to let the machine know you are replacing the cartridge.  When you open the ink tank access cover, the screen will display a message asking if you are replacing the ink tank or the print head.  Select Replace Ink Tank.

Verify the cartridge is installed correctly and fully inserted into the machine.  There are ridges on the sides of the cartridge that correspond with grooves in the machine.

Print Quality Issues

The print head is not integrated into the cartridge.  It is a separate, replaceable, maintenance item that will need to be replaced over time.  We do not currently carry a replacement print head.

There is a piece of tape that covers the vent hole and nozzle that must be removed prior to installation.

Try running a nozzle cleaning on the machine.  To do this;

1. Press Menu.

2. If necessary, press the green down arrow key to scroll through the menu screens.

3. Select “Maintenance”.

4. Select “Printer Maintenance”.

5. Select “Clean Printer Nozzle”.

6. You have a choice of four purges to use. Normally selecting “Purge A” is sufficient to purge the system.

7. The system executes a purge. This may take a few moments. When finished, the Cleaning Complete screen displays.

• Select “Print Test Pattern” to print a test pattern.

• Select “Select Another Purge” to choose a different purge.

• Select “Done” to return to the Printer Maintenance menu.

If the print quality doesn’t improve then it may be necessary to clean using the next purge level.
