Not Recognizing

Verify you have the correct drum for your specific model printer.  This is a universal drum that is compatible with various Dell and Lexmark printer so double check with the printer’s user’s guide on which replacement drum it requires.

Make sure the drum is properly installed and that they are re-using their toner cartridge.  The toner cartridge will fit loosely inside the drum.  Protrusions on the back of the printer cover will position the cartridge once the cover is closed.

There are no smart chips on this drum unit.  You can reset the drum page count on Dell printers by holding down the CANCEL button until all the LED lights on the printer flash in sequence.

For Lexmark printers you can reset the drum page count by doing the following;

1.       Turn the printer off.

2.      With the printer still off, press and hold the SELECT and RETURN buttons. While still holding the buttons down, turn the printer back on.

3.      Keep holding them down until the screen shows PERFORMING SELF TEST or CONFIG MENU.

4.      Release the buttons when either of these messages are displayed.

5.      Press the left or right arrow buttons until RESET PC CNT appears on the display.

6.      Press the SELECT button.

7.      When the display shows CONFIG MENU again, turn the printer off. Wait 5 seconds and turn the printer back on. (Do not hold any buttons down this time).

8.      The counter is reset.

Print Quality Issues

There is a protective paper held on by tape that must be removed prior to installation.

Visually inspect the OPC drum for any damage or debris.  Do NOT touch the OPC drum.  You can use a clean, dry, soft, lint-free cloth to gently wipe the drum.  Do NOT use moisture of any kind.

There is no protective drum shutter to protect the OPC drum so caution must be taken in handling this drum unit to prevent damage to the OPC drum.  The OPC drum can easily be scratched or nicked and you also do not want to get any fingerprint oil on the drum as this may damage it.

Ghost imaging, bad streaks, lines, and repeating images are usually signs of a bad drum and a replacement should be sent.  Light specks on the page may be a sign of the printer itself being dirty and the customer can try cleaning out their printer with air.
