THIS IS A TONER THAT HAS THE OPC DRUM BUILT INTO THE CARTRIDGE ITSELF AND IS REPLACED AS ONE WHOLE UNIT.  THERE IS NO SEPARATE DRUM UNIT.

Not Recognizing

Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific model printer.

There is a smart chip located on the front of the cartridge.  Check the chip for damage or debris.  A Q-tip can be used to reach the four gold contacts.

Make sure the cartridge is installed correctly and fully inserted into the printer.

Print Quality Issues

There is a piece of black paper held on by tape that covers the OPC drum which must be removed prior to installation.

There is a pull tape seal on the side of the cartridge which must be removed prior to installation.  It is important that this pull tape seal is fully removed.  If the cartridge is printing blank pages then the pull tape seal probably hasn’t been removed or has broken off inside the cartridge while being removed.

Slowly shake the cartridge five or six times to distribute the toner evenly inside the cartridge.

The OPC drum is located on the bottom of the cartridge.  Do NOT touch the drum.  Visually inspect the OPC drum for damage or debris.  A soft, clean, dry, lint-free cloth can be used to gently wipe the OPC drum.  There is no protective drum shutter on this cartridge to protect the OPC drum so caution must be taken in handling this cartridge to prevent damage to the drum.
