THIS IS A TONER THAT HAS THE OPC DRUM BUILT INTO THE CARTRIDGE ITSELF AND IS REPLACED AS ONE WHOLE UNIT.  THERE IS NO SEPARATE DRUM UNIT.

Not Recognizing

Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific model printer.

There is a smart chip located on the right side of the cartridge.  The smart chip is inside a small plastic flap so it may be difficult to inspect and clean.  A Q-tip can be used to try to fit into the small space and clean off the gold contacts.

Make sure that the cartridge is installed correctly and is fully inserted into the printer.  Align the cartridge with the grooves in the printer which correspond with the tabs on the cartridge.  Push the cartridge down as far as it will go.

You can also try resetting the printer by turning the printer off, disconnecting the power cord for 10-15 seconds, plugging the printer back on, and turning the printer on.

Print Quality Issues

There is a piece of paper that wraps around the OPC drum which will need to be removed prior to installation.  This piece of paper goes under the plastic shutter and helps protect the OPC drum from light.  Be careful NOT to touch the OPC drum while removing the paper.

A pull tape seal is located on the side of the cartridge and must be removed prior to installation.  It is important that this pull tape seal is fully removed from the cartridge.  If the cartridge is printing blank pages then the pull tape seal probably hasn’t been removed or has broken off inside the cartridge while being removed.

Gently shake the cartridge in all directions to distribute the toner powder inside the cartridge.

The OPC drum is located on the bottom of the cartridge is protected by a plastic shutter.  Lift the shutter to view the OPC drum.  Do NOT touch the drum.  Visually inspect the OPC drum for damage or debris.  A soft, clean, dry, lint-free cloth can be used to gently wipe the OPC drum.  Do NOT use moisture of any kind.
